Scituate approves $5 million affordable housing at Gates School

Scituate preservation committee approves $5.6 million in historic projects. The Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to authorize a $5 million bond for 63 affordable senior housing units at the Old Gates School, designed to bring the town to 10.1 percent affordable housing and reach the state's safe harbor threshold for development purposes. Additional approvals included $500,000 for a Town Hall archives vault, $50,000 for GAR Hall exterior restoration, and $76,495 for restoration of the historic Lawson Farm Gates.

The committee also approved $4,350 in Community Preservation Coalition dues. All projects advance to October Town Meeting for final voter approval.
