Scituate faces $3M FY28 budget gap; override or reductions likely
Financial Forecasting Committee · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Scituate financial officials signal FY28 budget shortfall of approximately $3M, warn of override or reductions. The Financial Forecast Committee certified $6.56 million in Free Cash for FY26, driven by $4.2 million in revenue beyond projection and $1.9 million in expense turnbacks. Finance Director Nancy Holt reported that projected FY28 revenue growth of only $967,591 will be absorbed primarily by fixed-cost increases in pensions, health insurance, and property liability coverage.
Select Board Chair Susan Harrison stated that the town will likely face a tax override or deep budget reductions, with both a budget article and a separate override article to be presented at the April annual town meeting, followed by voter decision in May.
