Select Board OKs $8.8M for Harbor, Housing

Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026

Scituate Select Board backs $8.8M in harbor park and housing borrowing. The board voted 4-1 to recommend $3,835,165 for Pier 44 Park construction, a day after the Advisory Committee rejected it 1-2, and 4-1 to commit $5 million toward the $33 million Gates Apartments affordable-housing project. Community Preservation Committee Chair Dan Fennelly called it only the second time in 22 years the CPC has had to borrow money.

The board also disclosed Scituate's water system exceeded federal disinfection-byproduct standards, approved a $2,484,409.70 water main contract with Celco Construction Corp., and sent Hanover a letter of concern over roughly $1.7 million in disputed building permit fees for a new vocational high school. Member Andrew W. Goodrich argued against reviving a $2.7 million police training facility rejected in April, saying, "We're not going to build an inch of a new sidewalk."
