Scituate Select Board approves propane storage license for 40B development, 4-1

SCITUATE — May 12, 2026 — Scituate Select Board approves 8,500-gallon propane storage license for a 40B development on Old Oaken Bucket Road, 4-1. The May 12 vote allows EJP Old Oaken Bucket LLC to install underground propane tanks at the 22-unit development at 279-281 Old Oaken Bucket Road, subject to individual fire department permits per tank. Neighbors including Barbara Miraglia, 92, of 275 Old Oaken Bucket Road, and her son Louis Moralia argued the tanks posed explosion and environmental risks in a water resource protection district and questioned why a natural gas line was not connected instead. Board member Jeff Trudeau, casting the lone dissenting vote, said he would nonetheless support the license because a denial would be overturned by the state Housing Appeals Committee at taxpayer expense. Fire Chief Brian Frazier told the board the department issues 10 to 15 similar underground propane permits per year in Scituate, some at larger capacity. In a separate 3-2 vote, the board renewed seasonal outdoor seating for The Galley at 95 Front Street, again drawing complaints from neighbors and nearby business owners about parking loss and amplified music audible in adjacent condominiums.
