Select Board approves poll extension, permits propane tanks, extends sewer disposal contract.

Select Board · Meeting of May 12, 2026

SCITUATE — Select Board extends polling hours and approves propane tanks for 40B project. The Board voted unanimously to keep polls open until 6 p.m. on June 6, estimating 114 voters used the extra hour in 2023 at a cost of $1,200. In a contested decision, the Board unanimously approved an 8,500-gallon underground propane storage license for the Cottages at Old Oaken Bucket development, rejecting resident appeals to mandate natural gas instead, citing the limits of Board authority over fuel-type decisions in state-regulated affordable housing projects.

The Board extended the trash disposal agreement with Reworld SEMASS for ten years at $104.31 per ton with annual CPI-tied increases capped at 3 percent, effective July 1, 2026. Water and sewer enterprise rate votes were postponed to the next meeting pending additional modeling, while the Galley restaurant's seasonal outdoor dining extension narrowly passed 3-2, with Chair Goodrich and Clerk Schlegel dissenting on parking and noise grounds.
