Scituate Select Board Approves Front Street Charity Dinner Benefiting Local Cancer Nonprofit

SCITUATE — July 22, 2026 — Scituate Select Board unanimously approves a long table charity dinner on Front Street for September 12, 2026. The board conditionally approved the special event permit for Scituate resident Mike Kusko, a lymphoma survivor who organized the event under the name Team Pisco to benefit Cancer Can, a South Shore nonprofit supporting families facing cancer diagnoses. The seated dinner would accommodate 100 to 150 guests along a closed block of Front Street between Brook Street and Otis Place, with participating restaurants providing courses for a multi-course meal and the street cleared by 11 p.m. Board members pressed Kusko on whether affected businesses had been individually consulted — they had not — and asked him to complete that outreach before returning for final departmental sign-off at the August 4 Select Board meeting. A secondary beer garden component was left unresolved after the Newburyport organizer, whose comparable event sold out 300 seats in its first year, advised Kusko against attempting both elements simultaneously in year one.
