SCITUATE -- May 15, 2026, Scituate's Council on Aging advisory board received a broad operations update and a detailed briefing on the final weeks of the South Shore Elder Services wind-down at its May 15 meeting. South Shore Elder Services liaison Kenzie Vandenberg, attending in one of her last appearances before the transition concludes, told the board that protective services will transfer to Old Colony Elder Services on June 1 and all other Aging Services Access Point functions will follow on July 1, though the disposition of federally funded Area Agency on Aging programs, which Old Colony is not authorized to administer, remains under active state negotiation with no decision as of the meeting date. Director Linda Hayes reported 55 new member registrations in April, 509 transportation rides with six active drivers, and a $1,700 replacement printer purchased with grant funds. Hayes also announced four summer outdoor music events and said a new MassDOT-backed transportation subsidy grant will allow the center to resume assistance for clients who cannot cover ride costs. The Social Day program, with 11 participants and a waiting list, logged six departures since last month, five to higher care levels and one death, while the Together in Time memory cafe enters its fifth session with more than 20 participants.
