Scituate DEI Committee Plans March Community Listening Session at Library

SCITUATE — January 20, 2026 — Scituate's DEI Committee moves toward its first public outreach event in years while schools near a diversity hire. At the January 20 meeting, committee member Angela Sun reported that a 17-person hiring committee has selected a finalist, Melissa Costa of New Bedford, for the district's new Director of Support, Engagement, and Advocacy position; Costa is scheduled to meet the community at Scituate High School on January 23, with a district letter sent to families the same day. Members also voted unanimously to approve November 2025 minutes and coalesced around a tentative March 3 community listening session at the Scituate Public Library, with members Carrie Borkoski, Elena Dre, and Israel Adler forming a working subgroup to draft messaging and secure the venue. The committee noted that no school-wide or town-wide MLK Day observance took place this year following the departure of the previous diversity director, a gap members called an early sign of what the new hire will need to address.
