Scituate Senior Center Director Announces Retirement at April Council on Aging Meeting

SCITUATE -- April 9, 2026, Scituate Council on Aging hears retirement news and a major regional merger disclosure at April 9 meeting. Director Linda Hayes, who has led the Scituate Senior Center for many years, announced she has filed retirement papers with approximately three months remaining, prompting board members to ask immediately how and whether the position would be filled given budget pressures. South Shore Elder Services liaison Tenzi Vandenbroek disclosed a planned strategic partnership with Old Colony Elder Services, targeting completion by the end of the fiscal year in June, driven by federal funding deficits and state-level changes affecting South Shore's more than 20,000 service recipients across 11 towns. South Shore CEO Sandra Lindsay, a 13-year veteran of the organization, is also retiring in June. Vandenbroek said no current service recipients should experience disruption, "intake will stay exactly the same", but acknowledged administrative layoffs are expected where positions overlap. The Senior Center also announced 54 participants have enrolled in a July 13 tall ships harbor cruise aboard the Spirit of Boston for the national Sail 250 celebration, filling the spots within a day of opening registration.
