School Committee · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Scituate's school committee heard an eleven-point corrective action plan for athletics gender equity, with no vote taken. Athletic Director Scott Payne apologized for unequal experiences among female athletes and detailed fixes including per-sport budgeting by fiscal 2028, mandatory ParentSquare communication by winter, and a proposed sixteen-member Athletics Advisory Council. Superintendent Thomas Raab opened by saying he wanted "to be the first to apologize to our female athletes and coaches." Committee member Dr.
Carey Borkoski pressed on why the district's lone athletic trainer, Christopher Alves, also serves as assistant athletic director, calling it something Payne "should have been at our meetings begging" the board to fix. Separately, officials floated pausing new fiscal 2028 capital requests, citing a projected 10 percent health-insurance cost increase and a town revenue outlook near 1.25 percent, well below the 3 to 4 percent the district has typically received.
