Scituate School Committee approves 11-point Title IX corrective action framework for athletics
SCITUATE — June 15, 2026 — Scituate School Committee launches Title IX athletics corrective action plan and reorganizes leadership. The committee unanimously re-elected Nicole Dirksmeyer as chair, elected Maria Fenway vice chair, and welcomed newly elected member Erica McMahon at its June 15 meeting, which ran past 10 p.m. Superintendent Dr. Rob Rapp presented an 11-point draft corrective action plan responding to a recently released Title IX equity audit of the district's athletic programs, outlining immediate steps including restructuring the FY2027 athletic budget on a sport-by-sport basis and requiring coaches to use sit.org email and ParentSquare for all family communications. Four residents pressed the committee on missing gender-disaggregated spending data for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, the girls golf schedule disparity (10 matches versus 18 for boys, compared to 12 to 17 in neighboring towns), and the absence of named responsible parties for each of the audit's 40-plus recommendations. The committee also gave preliminary approval to two Model UN trips — a University of Virginia fall conference estimated at $900 to $1,000 per student and a 2027 Yale Europe conference estimated at $2,500 to $3,000 — and heard that METCO enrollment is projected to fall to 55 students next year, the program's lowest count since Director Markavius Barnes arrived.
