SCITUATE --

HIGH SCHOOL

At the Sept. 28 School Committee meeting, officials said a council tied to the district's athletic corrective action plan has set its roster after an open call for volunteers drew interest from 11 or 12 parents. Five were selected with an eye toward equity, including representation of both men and women and of athletes who played different sports. The council's first meeting is set for Oct. 7.

Officials also said they planned to meet the following night with the district's booster club groups to go over the town's donations policy, review the groups' expenses, and discuss what is required for booster organizations to become 501(c)(3) nonprofits if they are not already. A kickoff meeting for the athletic council was described as following the week after.

The screening committee for Scituate High School's next principal, also discussed at the meeting, is set to include the athletic director alongside parents, students, faculty and administrators as the district works toward having a hire in place by late January for a July 1 start date.
