Select Board backs $27M North Scituate Sewer Expansion with low-interest funding

SCITUATE — Three committees unanimously back $27M North Scituate Sewer Expansion. The Select Board, Advisory Committee, and Capital Planning Committee each voted unanimously to recommend the bond article at an April 1 joint meeting, with the Select Board voting 4-0, the Advisory Committee 8-0, and Capital Planning 3-0. Town Administrator James Boudreau noted that low-interest funding from the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust—locked at 1.9 percent if the town acts by June 30—will save $5.45 million in interest costs compared to conventional 4 percent borrowing, while a $5 million Massworks grant is at risk if the project is not approved.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 with completion in 20 to 28 months.
