Historical Commission advances preservation plan, considers expanding to seven members

Historical Commission · Meeting of March 19, 2026

SCITUATE — The Historical Commission advanced its Heritage Strategies preservation plan toward final review. Chair Doug Smith will distribute chapters one through six to members, and consultant Peter Benton will provide an executive summary before the next meeting. The five-member commission unanimously approved February minutes 4-0 and discussed expanding to seven members to manage preservation-plan workload, with new appointments typically in April.

The commission voted to implement a Preservation Awards program recognizing restored and preserved buildings in Scituate, with awards presented at Heritage Days in August.
