SCITUATE — Cushing School Site Land Re-Use Committee met Monday to discuss future uses for the property. The committee learned that the 18-acre site is the town's only viable location for the food pantry's relocation, which was approved at last month's town meeting after voters directed the pantry's move from the Old Gates basement due to potential building demolition. Matthew Goehlert and Heather Marshall volunteered to serve on a survey subcommittee to help develop and refine community input.
Public comment identified ice rink and pool as proposed uses; sixth-grade students suggested recreational facilities including sports fields, hockey rinks, and adaptive swimming centers. The town will develop and distribute a community survey to gather broader input before developing site recommendations.
